Be The MatchOn any given day, more than 6,000 men, women and children are searching the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry for a life-saving donor like you. For the past 30 years, Be The Match, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), has managed the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world. Every day, Be The Match works to save lives by collecting tissue samples from donors to be matched to recipients through DNA analysis. Thousands of patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and other life-threatening diseases depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a match.
Still, 70% of all patients who need a blood or bone marrow transplant don’t have a fully matched donor in their family. Moreover, a patient’s likelihood of finding a matching donor within the registry is estimated to range from 23-77%, depending on ethnic background To address the lack of available donors, our Fraternity has partnered with Be The Match to spread awareness and build their donor capacity. Our goal is to recruit new members in the community to join the registry to increase the chances of saving someone in need of blood or bone marrow transplant as well as to promote the need for diversity in the registry. Each Chapter and Colony of Delta Sigma Iota works diligently to support Be The Match, and other organizations like SAMAR in the NMDP, to organize and execute awareness events, raise funding, and continuously build the donor registry. All it takes is a cheek swab to find out if you can save a life! |
Only with ConsentIn 2016, Delta Sigma Iota partnered with Only with Consent to educate our members, and the communities in which we operate, on sexual harassment, abuse, and assault. Only with Consent is dedicated to stopping sexual violence through consent and health education by providing resources to young people so that they can make healthy choices.
With their support, Delta Sigma Iota is working to combat rape culture while fostering consent culture among collegiate men to reduce the occurrence of these incidents by spreading awareness on and off our local campuses. Only with Consent is working diligently to create age-appropriate educational curriculums to disseminate in schools and universities across the country, so people of all ages are educated on consent to help facilitate safe spaces for as many people as possible. NAPA and RAINN Partnership
The National APIDA Panhellenic Association (NAPA) announces association-wide partnership with the Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network (RAINN), the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization The National Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Panhellenic Association (NAPA) is proud to announce an association-wide partnership with RAINN to bring sexual misconduct and allyship training to members in all 20 NAPA organizations. NAPA is committed to combating sexual misconduct, and through the collaboration with RAINN, plans to bring professional guidance, educational programming, and support to survivors and allies.
RAINN is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization and carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. RAINN provides subject matter expertise regarding sexual violence prevention, awareness, and response services to organizations as requested. NAPA serves to advocate the needs of its member organizations and provides a forum to share ideas and resources within its members. NAPA supports the development of positive relations through open communication with interfraternal partners to enrich the fraternal experience.
RAINN strengthens NAPA’s commitment to supporting member organizations and their efforts to educate, support, and guide community members in issues involving sexual violence and misconduct. The partnership will focus on providing educational programming, allyship training, and collaborative discussions based on membership feedback on sexual misconduct for NAPA members, alumni, and leadership. The collaboration was originally formed through a cooperative effort among organizational leadership, spearheaded by an internal NAPA working group led by Tram Alisa Vo (Board of Directors, alpha Kappa Delta Phi International Sorority, Inc) that aims to ensure content is customized for the NAPA community.
“This partnership is a momentous collaboration and a deep commitment to combating sexual misconduct for NAPA,” said Bilal Badruddin, NAPA Chair. “While NAPA has a history of partnering with organizations that work to combat issues that impact the APIDA community, the collaboration with RAINN is particularly exciting because of their history of holistic education and support. We look forward to partnering with RAINN to support our members and to continue to combat sexual violence through education.”
