Diversity & Inclusion
Delta Sigma Iota is currently the home of members from 29 different countries. Delta Sigma Iota believes that all races, religions, ethnicities, abilities, sexual orientations, political views and protected classes contribute to the collective achievements of our society. Delta Sigma Iota seeks out new Brothers from all backgrounds. While the fraternal origins of Delta Sigma Iota were based on South-Asian heritage and Gandhi’s teachings, the fraternity has evolved into a multicultural Brotherhood and asks that all members join in a respect for the beliefs of all. The fraternity shall only discriminate based on sex. Additionally, while Delta Sigma Iota does not discriminate based on political views, that does not mean that the organizations members may not involve themselves in political issues. The organization has no official political stance, and Chapter involvement in community events that may be interpreted as a political stance are not necessarily representative of the entire Fraternity’s stance on a topic, even if it is a Fraternity related event on the Chapter level.
Alcohol Use / Abuse
Delta Sigma Iota believes that alcohol use, when used in moderation and in compliance with local laws, is a personal choice that should made by an individual without coercion. Delta Sigma Iota understands that alcoholism is a potential consequence of alcohol use and encourage our members to seek help should they feel as though they are unable to control their relationship with alcohol. Additionally, we promote the use of local resources on/off campus to anonymously report those who may need help or extra support. Out of concern for the safety and well-being of its members, Delta Sigma Iota Fraternity, Inc. opposes alcohol abuse by members of the fraternity. The fraternity believes alcohol abuse prevents individual members from achieving their full potential as scholars, Brothers, and community members. Alcohol education is a portion of Delta Sigma Iota’s new member education process to help students understand the signs of addiction and potential dangers of unsafe alcohol use/abuse.
Substance Use / Abuse
Delta Sigma Iota believes that legal substance use, when used in moderation and in compliance with local laws, and/or under prescription and the supervision of a doctor, is a personal choice that should made by an individual without coercion. Delta Sigma Iota however does not support the use of Illegal Substances, which include, but are not limited to, illegal drugs, as well as prescription drugs used in a manner contrary to their instructions or by someone to whom they were not prescribed. Delta Sigma Iota realizes that addiction is a potential consequence of substance use and may prevent individual members from achieving their full potential as scholars, Brothers, and community members. We encourage our members to seek help should they feel as though they are unable to control their relationship with one or more substance(s). Substance Abuse education is a portion of the new member education process to help members understand the signs of addiction and potential dangers of substance use/abuse. Additionally, we promote the use of local resources on/off campus to anonymously report those who may need help or extra support.
Sexual Misconduct
Delta Sigma Iota will not tolerate or condone any form of non-consensual harassing or sexually abusive behavior — whether physical, mental or emotional — on the part of any of its members. We collaborate with Only with Consent, one of our National philanthropies, to educate members and the communities in which we operate on sexual harassment/assault/abuse in the hopes of spreading awareness and reducing the occurrences of these activities on university campuses. Additionally, the fraternity supports educational programming that promotes healthy interactions between all people and expect our Chapters to provide an atmosphere where all members and guests feel safe. Any instances of sexual misconduct are investigated regardless of University involvement.

Hazing & Risk Management
Delta Sigma Iota opposes all acts of hazing, as this is a violation of our standards and risk management policy. The National fraternity defines hazing as any action taken or situation created intentionally to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule, regardless of a person’s willingness to participate. Delta Sigma Iota provides members with educational training on hazing and risk management and expects our Chapters involvement in local University programming regarding this topic. The fraternity’s risk management policy shall apply to all fraternity entities and all levels of fraternity membership. The fraternity expects all members to comply with any and all applicable laws of the state, province, county, city and institution of higher education. Delta Sigma Iota expects its chapters to provide an atmosphere where all members and guests feel safe. All alleged incidents of hazing will be investigated and handled in accordance with the fraternity’s disciplinary code. Any member found in violation of Delta Sigma Iota’s risk management policy will be sanctioned in accordance with the policy. Such sanctions may include suspension and expulsion from the fraternity.
