Our nation is embroiled in controversy and we often find ourselves lost in a climate of division, discrimination, violence against, and hatred for vulnerable members of our communities.
Delta Sigma Iota is a service-based organization that serves our local and international communities to create unity among our brothers, create and serve community wherever we go, and to spread a love and deep appreciation for education of all kinds.
This is, in part, due to our continued dedication to living up/engaging community in the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. Delta Sigma Iota lives this and our Brotherhood is proof that those on opposite sides of the political aisle, of different racial backgrounds, living in different parts of the country, or of different national origins can and will continue to engage one another from a place of love, respect, and Brotherhood.
Despite debates over the role and future of our public servants, we have Brothers who are police officers and firefighters and Brothers who are activists and race scholars who will continue to have hard and important conversations about how to improve the public's relationship with our public servants.
Despite debates over the role of monuments and how best to remember our nations sometimes blemished past, we continue to support our Brothers from all states who may have different relationships to this past.
Despite debates over the role of immigrants in our communities, we have brothers from multiple racial, ethnic, and national origins that will continue to serve their communities as one. Moreover, the Brotherhood of Delta Sigma Iota does not speak of Gandhi as a monolithic man born as a leader and dedicated to social change. His upbringing included support for racial and ethnic discrimination, but he would choose to not die that way. Through his life and legacy of activism in India and Africa, support of continued dialogue, and dedication to non violence, the Brothers of Delta Sigma Iota know that our organization is on the right path.
This statement is a reaffirmation of our values and a promise to rededicate ourselves to the work that is necessary
to build community, especially during times when those communities have been driven so far apart.
